Welcome! It’s so nice to meet you.

I am a licensed psychologist practicing in New York City, seeing adults and couples, as well as children and families. I am currently taking new patients virtually and in person, at my office in Midtown near Bryant Park.

In my work with adults and couples, I use different approaches depending on what you are looking for help with. I mostly draw from cognitive behavioral and relational psychodynamic psychotherapy. I think that gaining insight into ourselves can free us to live more aware and fulfilling lives, and also that making practical changes to our behavior can meaningfully impact our wellbeing and relationships.

My therapy style is warm and straight-forward, and I act like my real self in sessions. I feel especially well-suited for individuals and couples who are curious about themselves, who want to engage deeply with the therapy process, and who see cultivating insight as a key goal of therapy.

Specific modalities from which I draw as needed:

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ExRP) for anxiety disorders, including OCD

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Behavioral Activation (BA) for Depression

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD and complicated grief

  • Psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychodynamic couples therapy

Therapy with Adults & Couples

In my work with children and families, I specialize in anxiety, mood challenges, and disruptive or oppositional behavior. Whenever possible, I take a family-centered approach to cognitive behavioral treatments, though I tailor my support to fit each child’s needs. Sessions may involve individual sessions with the child/teen, meeting with parents alone, and bringing everyone together. My goal is to balance practical behavioral strategies with deeper emotional understanding, and to provide evidence-based support that is also flexible and personalized. In addition, I have particularly specialized experience working with gender diverse youth and their families.

Specific modalities from which I draw as needed:

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for anxiety disorders, including OCD

  • Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE)

  • Parent Management Training (PMT) for disruptive/oppositional behavior

  • Behavioral Activation (BA) for Depression

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD and complicated grief

  • Family Therapy

Background and Training

I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Harvard University and my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Washington. I completed my predoctoral internship at Weill Cornell Medical Center/New York Presbyterian, and my postdoctoral fellowship at NYU Langone’s Child Study Center. Between college and graduate school, I spent time working at Microsoft in product marketing. Currently, in addition to working with patients in private practice, I am a Clinical Assistant Professor at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, assisting in the training of psychology and psychiatry trainees. I am also a candidate in NYU’s Psychoanalytic Training Program.

FAQs

  • I am an out-of-network provider and am not paneled with any insurance companies. If your insurance policy provides out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with paperwork to submit for reimbursement. If you have questions about your out-of-network benefits, I’d suggest calling your insurance provider to gather details. Common therapy billing codes include: 90834 (45-min individual therapy), 90837 (60-min individual therapy), 90846 & 90847 (parenting or couples session).

  • No, I am a generalist provider in my work with adults, and I see people with a wide range of issues including low mood, anxiety, trauma, grief, work stress, relationship issues, complex family histories, and more. Sometimes, I might realize that I don't have the specific expertise needed to address the problems at hand. If this were to happen, I would let you know as soon as possible and share what I think would be the best next steps.

  • I have a particular interest in providing behavioral parenting tools for youth with disruptive and oppositional behavior and/or anxiety disorders. If your child or teen is dealing with any of these issues, you’ve probably found that most standard parenting tools are not working, and can even seem to backfire. This is because children facing mental health challenges call for more precise, sometimes counterintuitive, parental responses. In parenting work, I usually teach concrete skills/tools in the first ~10 sessions. After these sessions, some parents continue wanting weekly support, while others feel ready to implement these tools on their own.

  • I’ve been fortunate to work with many trans youth and their families across different settings. In graduate school, I was part of the landmark study The TransYouth Project, and I authored/co-authored a number of research articles that were disseminated widely. Later, I trained at NYU Langone's Gender & Sexuality Service, offering gender-affirming therapy as part of a multidisciplinary team. I offer both consultations and ongoing psychotherapy for gender diverse youth and their families, and my goal as a clinician is to provide care that is affirming, practical, and evidence-based.
